Striking a Balance: Balance Treatment Considerations for Effective Intervention (2 CEs)

Balance is an area of assessment and treatment familiar to all practicing physical therapists and physical therapy assistants. Patients in pediatric, adult orthopedic and neurorehabilitation across facilities in acute, sub-acute, and outpatient settings will all be, at a minimum, screened for balance deficits. When a balance impairment is suspected, it may be challenging to know the best assessment tools and treatment interventions for the patient’s presentation. Assessment and treatment of balance are most effective when managed as a system, and components of the system are addressed in a systematic way.

This presentation is the third in a three-part series that discusses a systematic and evidence-based approach to treating balance impairments with use of the ICF model and evidence-based outcome measures. Learn underlying considerations for treating balance and how to apply those principles to your patient population, whether that is pediatric or adult, neurologic or orthopedic, or any other population.  Knowing the principles will allow you to generalize these treatment interventions. This presentation, from an expert in the field of vestibular rehabilitation, will give you ideas that you can use with your patients the next day!

Participants need not have attended the prior two sessions (Balance- More Than Just Standing On One Leg and Choose (and USE!) Effective Balance Outcome Measures) to benefit from taking this course.
